What music means to me?

I don't entirely remember the first time I listened to a specific music track over and over as I was simply too young and didn't have an iPod or access to music apart from the radio so there were no specific songs that I favoured. However, songs I do remember at this point would have been the classic pop songs played on the radio, such as 'Bad Romance' by Lady Gaga, 'Yellow' by Coldplay and 'Fireflies' by Owl City. As well as this 'Now that's what I call music' also had a large influence in my life as we had purchased the majority of these CD's.

As I got older, around the ages of 7-10, I loved building Lego and I remember I had access to a CD player and an iPod Shuffle that I shared with my brother. On the CD player I would listen to the 'Now that's what I call music' CD's whilst on the iPod (which my brother controlled the music for) I would listen to The Killers, The Hoosiers and Franz Ferdinand. I didn't really appreciate the music, it was just something in the background whilst I built Lego. The first CD I ever personally owned (apart from 'Now that's...') was the JLS album (titled 'JLS').

At the start of my teenage years, I regressed back to my radio stage of music, listening to the charts and the terrible pop music with the odd good tune here and there. And now I listen to a whole range of music (apart from grime, most rap and heavy metal as I think it's awful on the ears). I think I have a decent taste in music as I listen to a wide range of songs and am always searching for new ones and don't just listen to one or two genres of music (like the majority of people in my school). My favourite band is an English group called 'Glass Animals', who make indie rock music which is unusually odd music, but 'mellow' and satisfying. I also listen to Franz Ferdinand and The Killers (but actually appreciate the music now) as well as Twenty One Pilots, Arctic Monkeys, Two Door Cinema Club, Chet Faker, The Gorillaz, Oasis, Tame Impala, Royal Blood and Hozier. I think I have a preference towards Indie music and I think I've settled into my final and favourite music type.

As well as this music, I also listen to what I class as "Timeless Classic's" which includes (generally) older songs and artists. For example, David Bowie, Elton John, Stevie Wonder, The Beegees, The Beatles, Bob Marley, Queen, Spandau Ballet, Gorillaz etc.
